Round 5: Old Thing Be Best Forgotten

I am a day late on this post, but I fell asleep early last night without finishing the ironing portion of my Blocks.  I also did not complete the BOM block that I needed to redo yet.   You will see a few posts form me today as this is my end of year clean-up report time as well., but I thought it would be too wordy if I put it all in one post.  These blocks I think are rather hard until I found Inklingo's directions. I still have so much work to do, so I am kind of hoping that Bonnie does not do the big reveal tomorrow.

So on to the blocks!
Clue #5

Clues #1-#4
I just LOVE how Lorna describes her new linky party: "Let's Bee Social! is a Sew-Weet new weekly linky party for quilting bloggers.  A new post each Wednesday will allow you to add your own link to the Let's Bee Social linky party post."  The majority of the friends that I have made while blogging have been through linky parties and blog hops.  To be frank, I could not have gotten through the last few months without my blogging buddies.  They have been my encouragement and a good deal of support for me. And now another opportunity to make more friends and enjoy each other's work and lives!

May you all have a wonderful new year!!!!

A Pit Stop

Just dropping in real quick to show you my lovely cast-iron teapot my wonderful husband gave me for Christmas!!  I didn't even know I wanted or needed one, but I make atleast one or more pots of tea a day this week.  Today my daughter hijacked the drinking of most of the pot pictured as the cups are perfectly shaped for her little hands.  The fabric in the front is the newest pile to be trimmed for the organizational cube; sadly I will not be completely done with all my fabric before tomorrow.  Hopefully I will be done with my Celtic blocks enough to show them later today!

9th Annual Bacon Turkey

I am working on my Celtic Solstice blocks, which I will share in a bit, but I took a quick break to prep the turkey!  I went fancy this year and wove the bacon on the top instead of the usual drape. I also upgraded to a brown sugar bacon this year; in the past I have alternated between a peppered bacon, a maple bacon and just plan thick bacon for the top. Butter, garlic, and spices are rubbed under the skin and wherever else I can get it to stick! :-)

This all started the first Thanksgiving we were married, I didn't want to tell my new husband I had never cooked a turkey on my own, so I followed the temperature and time directions from the packaging and just made up the rest! The last 7 years I have made the turkey the day before, stored it broth, then it's a quick heat up on the needed day when oven space is at a premium. Well, I better get back to it. Look for a finished picture with my BOM post later today!

In Pieces!

Short, quick post here!  Bonnie released Clue #5 Friday and it suddenly got quiet on facebook as we were rushing to see what we could do! I love the Bonnie Mystery group on there, its the most fun I have ever had on a project!  I got my pieces cut out for Clue #1, the white squares for Clue #2 (Just need to print the green pieces and I am ready to start) and the extra pieces for Clue #5.  I don't know if I have alluded to the fact that this the second of two small Celtic Solstice quilts I plan to make, that is why I had to go back and cut fabrics for Clue #1 again.

The first quilt will be a scrappy one for myself!  I just couldn't continue on it until I figure out what colors I want to sub for the greens and yellows.  Plus I am not quite done with ironing and trimming my fabrics so everything is not yet organized for me.  The picture below is Clue #1 on the first quilt that will be scrappy.

I am hoping to post a finished set of blocks tomorrow!  In the meantime, I'd better get some sleep!

Fabric Stash Report-ish

I let my daughter help me unwrap my presents this year; she wasn't very impressed and certainly seemed puzzled by the Kate Spain Fat Quarter Pack I received!  Some parts are certainly gonna make it into a few of my projects this next year!  I have to admit that I gave myself a few minutes to fondle the fabric, take a quick picture, before I started the washer to get them incorporated into my stash!  I think this process will really work for me.

You probably have noticed that I have not really been doing so well keeping track and recording my subtractions and additions the latter half of this year.  I am sure I could probably go back and figure out most of the numbers though in the end I just don't know.  I pretty much fell apart after we lost the twins a couple of months ago.  Although I can't promise that I will not purchase any fabric over 2014, after all my birthday is in march and I have plans for a certain fabric line for my birthday, I'm not gonna lie.  However, I am promising to make my stash work as much as I can.  I promise to be innovative in using what I have on hand.  Having all of my fabric right in front of my face really helps, so that is the first step, getting all my fabric finally in one spot!

Well I am off to work on Clue #2 & #5 in Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice Mystery!  I am also working on my projects for the Kona Solids Blog Hop that starts up in a Little over a week and I am sharing on day one this time!!  I have one flimsy completed and the second is quite close now.  I am not sure that I will get them both sandwiched, quilted and bound, but I will have something to share atleast!

Really Random Thursday

Hello my random friends!!  I sincerely hope that those who celebrate the birth of Christ had a wonderful time with their friends and family celebrating.  For our family we are in the season known as "Christmastide."

1.  I am thinking this would make a great wall quilt!

2.  A worker pours water on snakes in preparation to slaughter them...You would not find me anywhere near there!

3.  I need to find this for next year's Christmas!  Check out this video, there are seeds in the wrapping paper, so you can save to plant the garden next year, well if I had a yard and a garden, but still a great idea!

4.  Today is the 2nd day of Christmas!  Did you know that the 12 days of Christmas is based on a series of Feasts in the Historic Christian Church that actually started on Christmas Day and go through January 5th?  You can find out more about that HERE.

Be sure to check out all the other randomness being posted HERE!

Round 4: Merry Christmas Eve, Eve

Celtic Solstice
I did it!!!!!!!  I completed both Clues #3 & #4 for Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice Mystery QAL!  I have to admit that I am still behind on Clue #2, but tonight I am not dwelling on that!  You will notice that all the fabrics are pretty much the same instead of the super-scrappiness that I showed in Clue #1 previously.  Well, that is because I decided to make a second small sized quilt.  I am making the scrappy one for myself and this one I plan to make for charity.  By using the yardage I am able to not only clear out more space in my fabric cubbies, but it's great practice for me in using the Inklingo system.  I cannot begin to tell you how much easier these steps are with Inklingo, but I still need some more practice as I have had a couple jams when I was being impatient.

BOM's AWAY

Do you remember the practice blocks I made a several weeks ago HERE?  Well I finally turned the practice blocks into a baby quilt top!  It will only be a 40" X40", but it helps me jump start a goal I have for 2014 to start using up the random BOM's that I have laying around as well as my orphan blocks which might be left over from other projects or tester blocks.  Right now I am signed up only for one BOM at my LQS for this next year because I want to make a farmer Wife Sampler Quilt over the next 2 years!

This block to the right is a practice block for Mid-November's BOM from my LQS.  Unfortunately I was in a rush so I majorly messed up the actual block when I attempted it before practicing, so I decided to turn back to the practice blocks before I gave it another go.  I made 9 of these blocks now which I will also turn into a baby quilt once I figure out the sashing (should I go with the white or another color?).  I am sure I will share more on that project next year, haha!  I have been just waiting to say that!  These have been projects I have completed working on the mystery quilt which I affectionately called my "pause projects" instead of "Leaders/Enders."

A Little black Rain Cloud
Now I am going to reward myself with a large cup of Hot Chocolate with whip cream on top and some more episodes of The Deadliest Catch!  Thank you all for stopping by today!

Fabric Stash Report-ish

I wanted to share with you what I purchased over the Black Friday sales and due to high volume there was a delay in receiving my package until last week.  My original plan had been to hit Joann Fabric's Black Friday and Saturday Sales, however I was greatly disappointed by the fabric quality of what was being offered.  So I took my money online to Connecting Threads' sale which I am very glad I did because everything except the white yardage was 60% off their already crazy low prices!  I ended up with 70 Fat Quarters plus 6.5 yards (including the white fabrics), which comes to 24 yards of fabric for $63 USD with free shipping!  They just marked a whole bunch of fabrics down to clear out for the new fabrics coming in 2014, so it's worth checking out their clearance section HERE.

While I have mostly been lazy this weekend, I was able to throw that last load of to-be-washed fabric into the wash I showed the other day in my post HERE.  The to-be-trimmed pile also got decimated and folded into my stash.  Everything is looking pretty full right now so I am not so certain that all my fabric stash is going to fit, especially since I pulled all my fabric yardage that was tucked away in a tote out to join the rest of the fabric party!

Well I am off to work on Clue #2,#3 & #4 in Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice Mystery quilt-along, I have gotten slightly behind!  I am also working on my project for the Kona Solids Blog Hop that starts up in a couple of weeks!  I am super pleased with how my projects are turning out, but now I just need to get them done!!

Really Random Thursday

It's another happy random Thursday!

1.  My husband showed me this wonderful video which was just so joyful that I thought I would share:

2.  I am still working on washing all of my fabrics in my stash as I posted yesterday, though I thought I would re-post the picture of my progress:

3.  I am getting behind on Bonnie Hunter's Mystery which launches Clue #4 tomorrow!  Here are the parts I have completed thus far:

5.  I tried to come up some other random bits to share, but I couldn't quite think of anything so I have a website to share called The daily Apple.  I randomly found this last year when I was searching about a "hip Bath;" this site not only had the answer it had an entire post on the history of baths and the like!  It is the perfect little site to find out random items, histories and whatnot as well!  The blog is quite enjoyable!

Be sure to check out all the other randomness being posted HERE!
