Pattern Testing: Gabriella Fae Dress

The day has finally arrived; I can now show you the dress!  I have been pattern testing for Sis Boom and the Scientific Seamstress on the Gabriella Fae Dress.  The best part about this dress is that it has so many options: Short sleeves, long sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, or no sleeves with a regular bodice or a gathered bodice.

4T no-sleeves, non gathered bodice:

I started with a size 5 girls gathered bodice version because that is what my daughter seems to be sporting these days with long sleeves because it was Winter for a couple weeks here in Texas!  Once I tried it on her however , I realized that it's probably best not to measure one's child for garments while they are laying down (while she was sleeping, lol).  I wanted you to be able to see the pretty gathers.  This one should be done this week if I can get the rest of my list completed.

While I was going through the closet, I saw a shirt my husband had never worn that looked like this:

and I turned it in this:

Front

The back

It just needs a little hemming and then this fully lined version will be ready to wear this coming summer (Size 5 girls).  It's a really easy dress to put together, even the zipper instructions seem like an easier task than I thought they would.  If you are interested in purchasing the Gabriella Fae you can find it on the Bundle-Up from January 23-February 2nd.  When it is released for single sale you can visit the Scientific Seamstress Shop HERE.  If you want to see the adult women's version called the Carolina Mae, stop by HERE, they currently have it on sale for the intro price of $8!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Modern Building Blocks of the Month-December

I am rather unhappy about this block, I haven't summoned enough energy to make a counterpart in my own fabrics.  I am teetering on the edge of giving up on this BOM; if the blocks were not free upon completing the previous month's block I might have walked away all together.

What Am I Working On?

I have been working on a mini-version of Grand Illusion Mystery by Bonnie Hunter.  When I say mini, I really do mean mini! I took the measurements she gave subtracted 1/2" then divided the number in half and then added back in the 1/2" for the seams.

There is a part of me that wanted to stop the process completely BUT once I calmed down the design has grown on me and I am not freaking out too much at my color choices.  I should admit to you that my original intention had not been to do a reduced sized Quilt, but to make a reduced AMOUNT of blocks.  So I will confess when I was in the process of making the gazillion HST's I simply made the wrong size so I cut them down to mini-version.  AND trust me, it doesn't take less work just because the block sizes are smaller.

Where I am at:
Week 1-Half the blocks completed
Week 2-Quarter of the Blocks completed
Week 3-Half the blocks completed
Week 4-HST & Squares are cut, ready to assemble all blocks
Week 5-All the blocks are completed

I need to go check the mail box this afternoon because I ran out of my two solids and I am waiting to get my box!  In the meantime, I plan to throw a couple of blocks together with the parts I have here.

If I am able to I will try to post an update tonight!!

BOM's AWAY!

I haven't been so active on blogging as I had planned, especially as I have had internet issues the past couple days.  I have also let myself get lost in the process of finishing up my blocks for the LoneStar Pizazz BOM that I started in fall of 2013!  My goal is to complete all the BOM's I have laying around.  I have to admit, this one scares me a little bit because it has a big lonestar block in the middle with these blocks spread out like a clock.  It's daunting to me, perhaps even to the point of overwhelming, but I will tackle it!

Here are all the blocks together:

I can definitely see how much my piecing has improved over the past 2 years in these blocks.  I had to do a little dance when I did the 8th block! Do you like Blocks of the Month clubs?  Do you find that you get far behind or that you are able to keep up?  I almost always get behind, even with it just being one block per month!  I let other projects consume me and my attention.

I am off to get caught up on laundry!

2015 Finish-A-Long Proposed Projects

There are an irresponsible amount of UPO/WIP floating around my apartment, sadly these are not all of them.  I have decided to throw my list up to gain more accountability.  I have included past years, BOM block quilts on this list as the goal is to completely finish them.  The pictures are horrible for some projects, I have gotten further along on them, hopefully I will have a finished project to replace the picture with rather than just an updated picture!

My running list will be kept in a tab at the top of the blog!  May this year be the year of finishes!
