Pretty In Pink Finish

This was Project #12 on my First Quarter list HERE for the Finish-a-long.

The past couple of years I have not been that great about getting baby quilts that I planned as gifts finished and delivered!  This coming Sunday I plan to deliver 2 such Quilts.  If I can manage it I plan to finish another one next week.  I have been really spurred on this year by the Finish-along group, by instagram, and an insane desire to complete as much as I can before we hand the keys over to this current apartment in 7ish weeks!  I am overjoyed that I completed this quilt yesterday afternoon!

It was quite funny to find a place to get some pictures.  I finally decided to combine a much-needed trip to the park with my pictures taking.  There was a boy who kept popping up just behind the quilt as I was snapping pictures and you can see the shadow of his sister on the top of the structure!

Quilt Stats:

Completed: March 2015

Size: 40" x 40"

Zig Zag & Time Warp: Finishes 9

HST String Quilt:
Greetings!  I have finally finished the Quilt top from my HST String blocks; I am callign it my Zig Zag Quilt.  The backing fabric will be the same Yellow fabric as the center strip of the string blocks, but I am debating with myself on the binding fabric, so see below to give your opinion please!  Now I know these are not completely finished, but I am celebrating half way through or when I get the tops completed.

HST String Quilt Top

Which of these 3 fabrics do you think would go with the top and yellow backing?
 February Scrap Challenge:
These little challenges I have given myself are not turning out so badly I think.  I have used almost every scrap of fabric from my pile of 1933 reproduction prints I picked up in a couple Moda scrap bags a couple years ago.  There are just a couple strings left that I might use on the back in some way.  I am debating on the backing fabric as the only yardage I have that might even come close to fitting is a peach print with tiny peach bubbles on it.  Perhaps a border on the front would tie the fabrics with the scrappy bits?  If I had thought about it ahead of time, I would have put a bit of the peach fabric in with the scraps!  Its too late now, I am not Seam ripping this project anymore!
Quilt top measures 46" X 48" as it is currently
This quilt is based off my Paper clip quilt [POST] and yet I want to call this one Time Warp because of the reproduction fabrics and because it reminds me of hoaky sci-fi graphics!  We certainly know how much I love Sci-fi, hoaky or not! What do you think of the peachy fabric snatched up from my stash?  Do you think the quilt top needs a border? There is only one more month left in the Quarter for me to finish my running UFO/WIP list which I will be updating this coming Sunday.

Are you thinking of going scrappy or use from your stash this year?  If you have time, link up your posts each month with your own personal challenges.  Check out March's post:  HERE.

Finishes 8

So I am still finishing up taking the pictures for part 2 of the Tutorial I posted on Tuesday.  We got a little bit sick over here so I am slow going on that, but there is no rush is there?  I thought I could get posted the projects I have finished from Monday and Tuesday work though.  I am very glad I went with this arrangement.  The finished quilt should be about 40" X 40" when all is said and done.

Squares & 4-patches:
This is the front.

This is the back

I used some of the left over 4-patches I had for the back.  There are still some left over blocks as well so I might make something of them.  I might have to purchase something for the binding as that black piece on the back is my last bit of solid black.  I do have just a touch of the dark pink dot fabric, but I am not sure if I should be looking for a different color and/or print for the binding.  My favorite part about this quilt is that all the fabrics came from my stash!  This quilt shall get added to my Limbo pile.  It is working out great for me in that I am getting quilt tops and backs prepped even if I can't get Quilting them until I get more batting!  I cannot believe how much will get accomplished!

Finishes 7: Fist Full of Lavender

I have been swamped since my early edition of the Friday Night Sew-in on Thursday.  It must be admitted that the light was burning far into the night and I decided in the end to focus on two projects, although progress was made on the Birthday Dress, I actually forgot to take into account one important matter...It is not Miss Z's color!  I wanted an outfit that would look good on her for her birthday pictures in the end I decided that I wanted her to wear one of the lavender purple projects.  The Original Birthday dress certainly will not go to waste, I have a very special little girl in mind for it; she herself will have a  1st birthday herself very soon!

Two + Two Blouse:

Two + Two Blouse:  back
Two + Two Blouse:  In Action
It was so fun to see Miss Z wear the Two + Two Blouse with her pale purple leggings.  With all the people milling about we just knew that she would be wanting to run about from side and side.  It was just perfect for her personality and her wonderful 1st Birthday!

Playdate Dress:

Playdate dress: Back
Playdate Dress:  The Details
My husband simply is delighted with this dress and so am I!  Both of these projects have been a long time in coming to completion and it makes me feel amazing to get some more items knocked off my list.  I am still trying so hard not to start projects but I love the variety that working on multiple projects brings me.  If something is not working out on one project then I can put to the side and get as far as I can on another.  For me, it has helped me to get a lot competed because I feel motivated.  I think that things like the Friday Night Sew-In and The Finish-a-long give me the small bursts of motivation I need to get over some of my problem areas.  I am going to admit that I did have a friend who came over and helped me set the finished white Yoke-ish area on the Playdate dress, but I was able to get everything else completed myself.  Now are you looking to make either of these projects, both patterns can be found at Oliver + S pattern company.

I was a little lost on what exactly to do for a First birthday as many of our friends have children who are much older than our darling girl, but a simple celebration is not a bad thing.  Miss Z really did not know what to do with the piece of cake we gave to her so she just dragged her finger from the frosting to her lips.  In the end Daddy had to come teach her how to play with her food as she really did not wish to get dirty!

I also was able to trim up the rest of the blocks for the 4-patch And Squares Quilt, but I will share the updated picture tomorrow!

A Four Squared Finish (week 6)

I AM FINISHED!!!

You cannot believe how excited I was last night just 5 minutes before my husband walked into the door from work, I knotted off the last thread for this project!  Oh my this project was a lesson at every corner.  After sewing together all the charm Squares for the last project involving the 'Lil Twister Tool  [see POST], I wanted to make a smaller projects without going with a  smaller tool.  I started this project about 2 years ago.  I never imagined this is how it would turn out, but I am so grateful to Leah Day's Tutorials and videos!  I used her method of joining the four separate mini-quilts into one 40"X 40" Project.  This marks my first finish for the 2013 Finish Along hosted by Leanne @She Can Quilt.

Four Squared Weekend:  Front

Four Squared Weekend:  back
I actually bought binding a couple of years ago from an Etsy Shop which is no longer in Business.  I hadn't actually planned out the quilt when I bought it however or I might have gone with something different, something Orange maybe.  All I knew at the time was that I had 4 packs of City Weekend Charm Squares by Moda and this binding should match.  There was a little less than a yard left of the binding.  I have decided to call it "Four Squared Weekend" and little corner bits were added to house a rod for hanging rather than the traditional sleeve.

I think I just might keep this one...

Finishes 5

Z's Birthday Dress
So, I set out to get some clothing completed, but as usual I got a little distracted!  I did make quite a bit of headway with her dress, but got stalled at the portion where I need to pin and gather the skirt which is not exactly smart to do with such a curious child about!

I am not really worried right now that Baby Girl will be without clothing as many have graciously supplied her with an abundance of clothing via baby showers before she was born.  Well on top of that we have a doting grandmother and several ladies at my Church who seem to remember Z when they are shopping or go to a garage sale.  My problem this week as I was sorting through clothes is I really had no good place to put her items so time to do a little fabric organization!

February 1st, 2013
I have decided to keep these bins right on the table as you see it now because I think it is going to work for me.  I realized today that I have an idea of what color fabric I need for a project so I only go to the particular bin, not even glancing at the others.  With the bins up I found the perfect fabric for the Sash for Z's Birthday dress (photo above) so I did not have to order as I had intended.  I also was able to add Border fabric to a WIP Quilt Top and find fabric to make the backing right away (Photos below)!

Completed Quilt top

Backing for Quilt
I also was able to add Border fabric to a WIP Quilt Top and find fabric to make the backing right away (Photos below)!  You wouldn't believe how excited I was when I spied a couple fabrics I now plan to use to make the backing for the "Chained" Quilt top I finished last Thursday [POST].  One of the fabrics was actually purchased for that quilt, but I honestly had forgotten about it.  It is so nice to have most of my fabrics organized again!  There are a few bits and pieces scattered about, but hopefully if I can swipe adopt a shelf from the dining room I should have a  place to put all my displaced items (in my own bedroom!!!!) that needs to be to move to make room for Z's clothing in her room!

Not a huge amount of finishes per se, but I feel the fabric organization is worth it!  I did hate to cut into the Yellow, but I would much rather have a quilt back and not be tempted when Z and I go to the Quilt store tomorrow to pick our BOM.  I think I am going to let Miss Z pick out another scrap bag because she has been carrying around the last one every day, stopping to pet her fabric.  I am debating though, should I leave the fabric be or make a little something with the fabric?

Finishes 4 (little Early)

So the goal this week was to finish making my Half-Square-Triangle (HST) String Quilt and finish making a  tutorial for it.  I was almost tempted away from it by Richard's new Color Blast Quilt tutorial [@ Richard & Tanya Quilt] (can be found HERE), which made me want to see if it could be converted into using Jelly rolls or maybe even a charm pack (I certainly have charm blocks a plenty over here!).  I also saw THIS POST over at Amy's Creative Side chatting about her Dancing Stars QAL and I nearly swooned because it is the perfect quilt pattern for my little Kate Spain Designer Bundle I bought in November 2011.  If I can get most of my UFO's either completed or to a completed top for the quilt projects then I am going to start this baby!!

With my Iron blowing up in smoke/leaking like a really bad thing, it really put me behind on my schedule, but that is okay, its not like the USA Financial Cliff that would shut down the government.  When one keeps things in perspective it is a whole lot easier to deal with one's disappointments.  To be honest, I was hoping to get caught up with most of the projects I have been focused on this month.  Although I have only completed 1 top this week, I am so pleased with the advancement being made on the other projects on my list.  I am a little short on time tonight as we are heading out to visit an open house for the school that Miss Z might attend in the fall. A new post is in the works with an updated list with new picture,s of course, that will be posted at the start of February.

Chain Quilt:  Top is complete, back & bindings are is in process, then limbo until new batch of batting.

Be sure to check out all the lovely quilt shops around the world and consider adding your own local Quilt Shop to the blogland tour.  Little Miss Z and I went over on Wednesday to pick up her first fabrics all while snapping pictures for our LQS Day post!  You can see that post HERE

What are your thoughts on quilting this year?  Are you going Traditional or Modern? Precuts or Scrappy?  Sampler projects or Free-form or a Pattern?  This is the year of the scraps & stash for me, so each month I am making a challenge to myself by choosing some fabrics.  Do you do the same?

Finishes 2

Maple Skies Fabric Line
Well I will just say it again, Connecting Threads makes some fantastic fabrics.  They are fast becoming my source for most of my fabric with a few bits from my local Quilt Shop which we call "the Grandma Store" for Ziona.  She likes to go in with me and bat her eyelashes at the Grandmas that work there.  The ladies are used to me coming in, but I had to laugh last Saturday when I stopped in to pick up my BOM materials.  The ladies couldn't help baby talking my darling as we passed by and we got a couple glares from those getting their fabrics cut!  I was a little surprised because we hardly ever get that response (well except when Ziona decides to talk over Bishop during Church, but even then most people understand she thinks she is supposed to be responding, well most.).
And I digress...hmmm what was I talking about...

Finishes 1

Greetings!  I have completed what started out as the "summer Games Quilt" into a little Table Topper.  Its not much of a finish this week, but I have been mainly trying to fit in the 2 Crib Quilts I have been working on for the past month or so.  I am so excited how much I am advancing on that project.  I will post some updated photos on Sunday and then hopefully next Friday I will have them finished to share with you!

Finishes 29: "In This Moment..."

Welcome to my finish of the week!  I am certainly not working nearly as fast as I did last year, but the process is still very enjoyable.

This is my Asterisk quilt using Free Spirit's Summersault fabric line.  The quilt top currently measures about 43"X 43" and I think it is ready to be put in my pile of finished quilt tops, but I am tempted to make it a bit bigger transforming it from baby quilt to lap quilt size.  If I do that, what color should I add on the outside edge/sashing?  What do you think is a good color choice for binding for either direction (adding sashing or keeping it the same)?  [this block is taught in the FREE Craftsy Block of the Month Class]

This is where I am at with my summer games Quilt.  I am so excited that I was able to get these squares completed this week!  I am just struggling on what to do to tie them together.  What do you think of the dark blue with dots material?  Does it work in between the blocks?  Should I move the block on their sides like diamonds?  More to do today, thanks for stopping by!
