What is a world without color? There is just something about a certain pop of color that elevates an item. I wasn't always interested in using solid fabrics, but the longer I experience the world of quilting the more I appreciate the power of simplicity. This bare wall was screaming out for adornment and I headed it's pleas with A Rainbow Trip Around The World wall hanging. The pattern exploded across my flickr stream last year, but laid dormant in the back of my brain until this challenge was put before me. You can find the pattern HERE by Bonnie Hunter.
A Rainbow Trip Around The World was quilted with an organic swirl pattern and measures 36" X 36." All of the fabric for the top was purchased 3 years ago for a Kona Amish Churn Block Swap, which I was not able to participate in, so I was not able to obtain the same matching black fabric in time for this post so it is presented without binding. A Beautiful rainbow Batik I bought when I was a mere 18 years old, was used for the backing which also does not fall under the Kona Solids description so I wasn't quite sure if I should share it, so please come back to view the backing on Thursday when I should have binding attached as well. I am slightly obsessed with rainbows so this wall hanging is selfishly all MINE! [edited 01/18/2014: The finished quilt can be view HERE]
Every girl needs a simple Navy skirt in her wardrobe I think; for Miss Z, I added the little lace on the bottom for a sweet touch. I made this simple skirt pattern up, the skirt is 2 X her waist and the skirt length goes to her mid-calf. You will be seeing more garment items for my marvelous daughter over this next quarter as she is transferring to size 4T before she is even Two years old!! I will be sprinting to catch up, let alone get a bit ahead of her growth spurts!

Tonight was one of those nights...we drove 45 minutes over to a friend & family's house for dinner and a night of fellowship. I really haven't gotten out much lately so I was jumping around like a child on Christmas morning with excitement. The road was a bit bumpy and I could hear my daughter saying "WEEEEEEE" In the backseat as we weaved along the roads. AND just like an amusement park ride, the moment we arrived in a standstill position (ie. their driveway), my daughter threw up all over herself, the carseat and well...everything.
I probably should have felt mortified, but I couldn't help but laugh instead. You know what? My simple laughter and smiles made my baby girl feel okay instead of scared if I had been cross about the situation. There are just things one cannot control and you know, it's okay, really. Thankfully, I had thought to pack a set of PJ's for the ride home so she had something to wear while her clothes and prize blanket was washing and drying. For some reason I had even packed her "Poley" which is her stuff polar bear, which I never do, but it was perhaps a little Godsend. We simply had a marvelous (I just love that word!) time AND best of all, their daughter re-invited herself to babysit sometime soon!
So it is rather late in the middle of the night once more as I am still a bit jittery! I am especially excited because I have been working on my Blog Hop projects and I just cannot wait to share them with you!!! I wish you could have a sneak peek; you will just have to wait until Tuesday for that! I can give you a little hint that my fabrics are...solids! HaHa! Okay, everyone's fabrics are such actually which is again making me very excited to see what the other's on the Day One Team have completed as well, but I guess I will have to wait as well. I probably should get tucked in and garner for myself a little sleep.

Round 5: Old Thing Be Best Forgotten
I am a day late on this post, but I fell asleep early last night without finishing the ironing portion of my Blocks. I also did not complete the BOM block that I needed to redo yet. You will see a few posts form me today as this is my end of year clean-up report time as well., but I thought it would be too wordy if I put it all in one post. These blocks I think are rather hard until I found Inklingo's directions. I still have so much work to do, so I am kind of hoping that Bonnie does not do the big reveal tomorrow.
So on to the blocks!
I just LOVE how Lorna describes her new linky party: "Let's Bee Social! is a Sew-Weet new weekly linky party for quilting bloggers. The majority of the friends that I have made while blogging have been through linky parties and blog hops. To be frank, I could not have gotten through the last few months without my blogging buddies. They have been my encouragement and a good deal of support for me. A Pit Stop
Just dropping in real quick to show you my lovely cast-iron teapot my wonderful husband gave me for Christmas!! I didn't even know I wanted or needed one, but I make atleast one or more pots of tea a day this week. Today my daughter hijacked the drinking of most of the pot pictured as the cups are perfectly shaped for her little hands. The fabric in the front is the newest pile to be trimmed for the organizational cube; sadly I will not be completely done with all my fabric before tomorrow. Hopefully I will be done with my Celtic blocks enough to show them later today!

9th Annual Bacon Turkey
I am working on my Celtic Solstice blocks, which I will share in a bit, but I took a quick break to prep the turkey! I went fancy this year and wove the bacon on the top instead of the usual drape. I also upgraded to a brown sugar bacon this year; in the past I have alternated between a peppered bacon, a maple bacon and just plan thick bacon for the top. Butter, garlic, and spices are rubbed under the skin and wherever else I can get it to stick! :-)
This all started the first Thanksgiving we were married, I didn't want to tell my new husband I had never cooked a turkey on my own, so I followed the temperature and time directions from the packaging and just made up the rest! The last 7 years I have made the turkey the day before, stored it broth, then it's a quick heat up on the needed day when oven space is at a premium. Well, I better get back to it. Look for a finished picture with my BOM post later today!
