BOM's AWAY: The Old Craft Store BOM

Give A Hoot's BOM's Away Party
A Block of the Month finishing party, what a brilliant idea!  It's kind of convoluted how I found this group, but I just love the idea and I think it just might work for me.  Groups and linky parties are what get me going on my projects.  I mean I try to plan and block off time to work on my projects but it takes a little peer pressure to get things done sometimes to be honest.   Total, I am a part of 4 BOM (2 online, 1 by email, and 1 at a local quilt shop) and 1 BOW.  My ultimate goal is to catch up of course, but that is so hard to do!

The Legacy Sampler BOM at The Old Craft Store has a monetary value to it.  If you bring the completed quilt block back on the designated Saturday (using the fabric provided) you get the next block for free.  So at the end I will have paid $10 for the club (I forgot to pick up 1 block on time so had to pay $5 for the block), gotten 11 blocks free and then I prepaid for the last 4-blocks needed for the quilt top.  They have a finishing kits too, but I plan to put my blocks on point and use some fabric from Connecting Threads to make a quilt for a family member for next year's Christmas.  My plans are to do a test block in the Martinique fabric line (I have a bit from several Moda Scrap Bags) so that I will end up with all the blocks for 2 quilt tops by the end of the BOM Club!

The Game is A Foot!

Greetings!  If you are looking for my TGIFF Hosting Post please go HERE!

Stockings:  The Unstuffed Truth

So this is one of those rare times that I can write about something that is a gift right after I make it.  Mostly because Brother One (keep it zipped, Two & Three, if you are reading this) does not have the internet.  He never got addicted when I was young(er) to it like I did, lol!  I had the packages ready with my customary gift for our Mother and....errr other stuff.  Before I could do the early send off--which is very rare for me, I am a distracted mailer--Brother One asked me to make him and his family stockings instead of gifts.  I already had my niece's gifts made, so those will go into the box as planned. [I am sending her belated First Birthday present as well]

A Blue Plaid flannel material Mother gave me 6 yards of 6 years ago !
Brother One  is a "salt of the Earth" kind of guy and as a former Marine (meh, I know you say there is no such thing, but he is not currently serving) he is also so non-frills.  And although I have talked on the phone quite a bit with Brother One's wife, since we have never met in person, I am not sure what kind of gal she is so I was at a loss there.  I figure I can make up for it by making something semi-frill for next year (Brother One will just have to cave if I will get Mother on my side).

Inside out:  Each Stocking is fully lined, i did a quick side stitch to seal the turning portal!
I didn't have time to go searching for a sock pattern so I just drew one out and after a couple of tweaks it is what I used.  I made 3 Stockings with Brother One, His Wife (how does "Brother One Wife" sound?) and His child's (Brother One Child Three*? Or B1C3, lol) first letter.  I also included a fourth blank stocking if they ever decide to procreate again.   Should I make one for the Dog?  Maybe a mini-stocking?

Now I bet Brother Two and Brother Three are wondering what Shanta** Claus got them!  Ha Ha Ha!  They will have to wait until Our Mother receives the package and then gives them their gifts!  Okay, Now I must be off to do more projects so my WIP list will look awesomely short on Wednesday (I am skipping the UFO Sunday to allow for more finishes) and I will have more free bobbins to use in my FMQ of those two crib quilts.  I am also pushing off on declaring what fabric I got for Christmas so my finished projects will hopefully swell my fabric usage count.  Oh, I will share pictures on Tuesday of my final Stash Report, Hubby was very good to me (or bad if you think I already own too much fabric).  So now I am off and I will (hopefully) see you tomorrow.

It's Beginning to Look like Christmas...late

A Delayed Christmas Dress

Well, technically I am hosting TGIFF (See yesterday's POST for the link up) but I had more finishes this week to share so I am adding in another finish post for the year, I just may have to post every day a new finish, well that is of course if I get anything else completed this year!  I wanted to complete this dress in time for the Christmas Eve Service but I had a minor meltdown when I realized that I had no matching thread.  I tried to suck it up and use the cream or brown I have on hand, but I had to rip it out; it truly looked horrible.  I was working on another project and digging in my desk drawers to see if I could find more empty bobbins when I came across a miniscule amount of blood red Sulky thread.

Z was delighted by her skirt touching her toes
Now, I hate using this thread with a passion, but I sewed very, very, very slowly (there is a speed switch on my machine which I rarely use since I am a pedal to the floor kind of sewer) to finish the top stitching to hold the lining down on the gathered part and to add velcro for the closure.  Velcro was used because I don't a snap setter anymore.  My button bin has not been found since we moved in May so I have been using buttons from my great-grandmother.  Since I am hitting the buttons that are pretty much priceless to me and possibly contain lead paint, I thought it best to go the velcro route!

I had to let Z play with the beads on the tree to get this back shot

The dress front without baby or Sash
I am truly delighted with how THE PARTY DRESS turned out except one minor thing:  it's too big.  Now that is not the pattern or designer's fault.  Believe it or not, my formerly chunky baby has shrunk!  When I made her the Oliver +S Two Plus Two blouses (See Post HERE and HERE) she was much chunkier, shorter and weighing a whopping 25 pounds at the time.  Ziona was fitting the width of the 24 months/2T clothes, but not the length.  She has since lost 3.5 pounds, gained 4 inches and then gained back 2.5 pounds, but I did not take this in consideration when I cut out and made the dress.  If you are looking for a beautiful girly dress check this FREE pattern out @The Cottage Home!!
The Back with Sash but without Z.
So I am off to finish up a Christmas Present (a last minute special request instead of the yearly gift card) that will help me free up an bobbin hopefully!  I really need at least 6 bobbins before I start my top stitching of the 2 Crib Quilts...of course I am also in the middle of piecing 1 of them still so that is next on my list and should also free up a few more bobbins!!  Until tomorrow with my next last minute finish!
